Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular procedures in aesthetic medicine. Today, it is performed on famous show business personalities, models, politicians, and anyone who wants to look even better.
Nose surgery can give a person self-confidence by solving urgent problems with the nose. With this procedure, any defect can be eliminated, from minor asymmetry to correction of the nasal septum.
In plastic surgery, there are two main types of rhinoplasty: purely aesthetic and reconstructive, when a person loses part of their nose as a result of a gunshot wound, accident, removal of a cancerous tumor, or has a congenital anomaly of this organ.

Surgeons are also consulted to eliminate serious problems associated with breathing disorders. In such cases, nose plastic surgery becomes not just a whim, but an urgent necessity for the patient. The type of surgery aimed at restoring breathing and improving the external proportions of the nose is called rhinoseptoplasty.
You can undergo rhinoplasty with experienced surgeon Dmitry Slosser. The doctor has over 23 years of experience and has performed more than 10,000 plastic surgeries. You may have seen this specialist at work on various talk shows on STB, Inter, 1+1, and other TV channels. Here are some of them: “Operation Beauty,” “Give Me Back My Beauty,” “My New Life.” Patients who underwent surgery as part of these projects got a chance to change their destiny!
Possibilities of rhinoplasty
The main desire of a person to change their nose can be anything, from a wide tip to a very large nose, which the patient often dislikes.
With this operation, it is possible to:
- remove or correct the hump
- change the shape and angle of the tip
- reduce or enlarge the nose
- correct asymmetry
straighten the nasal septum.
Correcting the shape of the nose helps a person get the nose that will look harmonious with the other features of their face.
With rhinoplasty, you can also change the tip of the nose or straighten a crooked nasal septum.
There is also another situation when rhinoplasty is necessary—after an injury or incorrect previous surgery. For example, after damage to bone and cartilage tissue due to trauma, all defects can be eliminated with minimal risk if you consult a specialist within the first 10 days.
At what age can you have nose surgery?
Usually, contouring of the nose for purely aesthetic purposes is performed between the ages of 18 and 40, although sometimes age is not a serious factor and does not act as a contraindication.
It is not recommended to perform rhinoplasty before the age of 18, as during this period the bone structures of the facial skeleton are actively forming and the nose has not yet fully developed.
However, in special cases, it can be performed after the age of 14, but only if it is related to breathing problems. Early rhinoplasty is also performed to create a normal nose in patients born with congenital defects.
Contraindications
All contraindications can be divided into two categories: when the operation can be performed due to health reasons and when it does not make sense. As for the first category, rhinoplasty cannot be performed if there is:
- diabetes
- diseases of internal organs
- problems with the cardiovascular system
- oncological diseases
- acute infectious diseases.
Another point that should not be overlooked is the need for rhinoplasty. An experienced surgeon will certainly tell you about the risks and show you the results of the future operation. It is important to remember that you will only achieve the ideal result after a few months. Therefore, before deciding on rhinoplasty, it is worth weighing all the arguments and deciding whether you need such a surgical procedure.
Cost of the operation

Types of rhinoplasty
Open rhinoplasty. An incision is made in the septum, in the narrowest part. Then the skin is separated and the surgeon performs the necessary correction of the nose shape. The wound is then sutured with a cosmetic suture. A plaster cast or synthetic splint is applied to the nose, and tampons are inserted into the nostrils until the next morning.
Closed rhinoplasty. The incision is made only on the inside of the nose, so that in the future, the scars are completely invisible, and the nose looks as if it has not undergone surgery. The wounds are sutured with threads that are later absorbed.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty. The shape of the nose is changed using hyaluronic acid injections or fat cell implantation (lipofilling) taken from other areas of the patient's body.
Planning stage
This is an extremely important stage in performing successful plastic surgery on the nose. Using modern technologies, the doctor selects the most optimal option for how the nose will look in the future, which requires deep knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as aesthetic taste. During the planning stages, Dr. Sloser does not welcome computer modeling of the nose, considering it to be merely a marketing mechanism. However, with his good taste and excellent drawing skills, the doctor schematically depicts the patient's nose and the stages of preliminary plastic surgery. At this stage, you will receive an answer to the long-awaited question about the cost of such an operation, and you will also be able to see photos of other patients before and after rhinoplasty.
How to prepare for surgery
During your first visit to a plastic surgeon, they will schedule you for a thorough examination to identify any possible contraindications to surgery. This usually includes an examination by an ENT doctor and a general practitioner, an ECG, and blood tests to determine hemoglobin and blood clotting levels. Two weeks before the upcoming surgery, you should completely stop smoking and taking anticoagulants. If you regularly take any other medications, you should also inform your doctor. On the evening before the operation, you should have a light dinner, and it is advisable to come on an empty stomach in the morning. As a rule, the surgical procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 1-2 hours. The recovery period lasts 2-3 weeks. The final result will be visible in 2-4 months.
How is the postoperative period
After the operation, you will need to wear a special bandage for some time to help fix the nose and its tissues in their new position. In the first few days, you should take painkillers and antibiotics. During the first two weeks, bruising and swelling of the tissues disappear, wounds heal, and the nose takes on a healthy shape. As a result, you will get the nose you wanted. It is best to entrust work on the nose to an experienced specialist, as facial surgery is highly complex. Dmitry Slosser not only has a foreign education in surgery and a wide range of advanced training courses, but also has more than 23 years of excellent practice and has performed more than 10,000 operations of varying degrees of complexity, including incredibly complex nose reconstruction operations. FAQ
In short, pain is manageable. Severe pain after surgery today is the exception rather than the norm. Modern anesthesia, pain management, and recovery protocols make the first days much easier than most patients expect. Most often, discomfort is felt as pressure or tightness. However, it is important to understand that complete absence of sensation is an unrealistic expectation. My position is clear: if a person is afraid of any discomfort, it is better to postpone surgery. The decision must be conscious and well considered.
No. Rehabilitation is part of the surgery, not a separate stage afterward. It is during the recovery period that the final result is formed, tissues stabilize, and the risk of complications decreases. Without proper rehabilitation, even a technically perfect operation may produce a weak outcome. There are procedures with an easier recovery (for example, “weekend lifts”), but surgery without rehabilitation does not exist.
The final result does not appear immediately. It develops gradually over time. Swelling, tissue firmness, and sensations change step by step. During the first weeks, the result is definitely not final, and this is completely normal. The timeline depends on the treated area, the extent of surgery, and individual characteristics of the body. Plastic surgery does not tolerate haste. A good result takes time.
It depends primarily on the type of work you do, not only on the surgery itself. After some procedures, it is possible to return to work within a few days (for example, after “weekend lifts”), while others require weeks of recovery. It is important to consider not only how you feel, but also the safety of the healing process. Returning to activity earlier than recommended increases the risk of complications. It is better to return later than to deal with the consequences of rushing.
Yes, scars always remain. This is part of the natural healing process. However, their appearance changes over time: they become lighter, softer, and less noticeable. Their location and proper care play a crucial role. Careful planning and patience are essential.
When the risks outweigh the benefits, or when the decision is driven by emotions. I refuse if I see that the body is not ready, expectations are unrealistic, or the person does not understand the recovery process. Refusal is also part of treatment. Safety is more important than any desire.
Yes, and it has a significant impact on the outcome. Honest answers, a list of questions, and a willingness to listen save time and help you make the right decision. A consultation is a diagnosis, not a sales pitch. A good consultation is half the success.

Septoplasty and rhinoplasty: the main difference
Septoplasty and rhinoplasty are two different procedures that can be performed separately or together.
