In cases of significant stretching of the upper eyelid skin, it hangs over the eyelashes and causes a decrease in peripheral vision. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is always performed for cosmetic purposes to remove herniated “bags” under the eyes and excess skin. Blepharoplasty is performed using an external incision along the natural line of the eyelid, namely in the fold of the upper eyelid, or the incision runs along the outer edge of the lower eyelid, slightly below the lash line, or from the inner side of the lower eyelid (from the side of the mucous membrane of the eye – this is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty).
Postoperative hematomas and swelling resolve within 1-2 weeks, but the final aesthetic result of blepharoplasty can be assessed one month after the operation. The duration of the operation depends on the technique chosen and the complexity of the clinical case. Usually, such an operation lasts 1-2 hours.
The structure of the patient's skin, their anatomical features, age, and the structure of the bone cavity in which the eyeball is located and the surrounding tissues affect the cosmetic and functional results after blepharoplasty. Factors that can cause complications after surgery:
- Previous dry eyes can cause damage to the mucous membrane of the eyes;
- Excessive stretching of the lower eyelid edge can cause its outer part to be positioned incorrectly;
